Sitaatteja historian merkkihenkilöitä.

Weiwei & Rei.

✏ "I want to be forgotten", vastasi muotisuunnittelija ja Comme des Garçons -muotitalon perustaja Rei Kawakubo, kun häneltä kysyttiin, miten hän haluaisi tulla muistetuksi. Rein lausahdus hyvin raikkaalta.

✏ "I do like Lil Wayne. People might be surprised to hear that he really does have a soft, sensitive side. And he's very smart. He made very good grades in school", sanoi Amerikkalainen toimittaja Katie Couric rap-tähti Lil WaynestaMiksi tällaisia pahoja poikia halutaan aina puolustella?

Muotikuvaaja Mario Sorrenti kuvasi Pirellin vuoden 2012 kalenterin. Hän kuvaili prosessia seuraavasti: "Something sensual but not over the top." Kalenterissa esiintynyt hollantilaismalli Lara Stone kertoi kuvauksista: "It's not sexy in-your-face sexy." Malli Milla Jovovich taas vertaili ― varsin elegantisti  Pirellin renkaita ja Pirellin naisia: "The thing about Pirelli is the really great tires, and they're strong and modern and they work, so in the shoot you've got these really strong amazing modern women. So there's this relationship going on between these really strong tires and these really strong women."

Just noin, beibi. Kuvittele olevasi vahva rengas.

✏ Näyttelijä Ethan Hawke kirjoitti romaanin nimeltään The Hottest State. Hän reflektoi kehittymistään kirjoittana seuraavasti: "The older you get, the humbler you get. I know I don't have that much to offer, and I know I've now read Moby Dick and Anna Karenina, and if I had read those books before I wrote The Hottest State, I don't think I'd have published it. I had the arrogance of the uneducated, which sometimes you need."

Jazzpianisti Vijay Iyer pohti improvisaation käsitettä: "Nobody told me what to do or what not to do on piano. I wouldn’t even say figured out because that implies they’re correct. I think all of what I do is jacked up, actually! The thing is it’s mine in the sense that it was this hard-won result of years and years of experimenting, searching, and finding. It wasn’t handed to me. It was just what I did.”

Kuuntelen Marc Maronin minä-keskeistä ja tunnustuksellista WTF-podcastia melkein joka aamu matkalla töihin. Marcilla on luontainen tarve avautua: ”I genuinely have a need to connect with people, emotionally, or as quickly as possible. I feel like I understand them or that I’m being understood. That’s something that’s just a core element of who I am. Sometimes I fight it. Sometimes I fight people. Sometimes I connect to people that may not feel connected to me or sometimes I lack boundaries and that provokes something. I think the entertainers and people that are creative want to talk and feel and go deeper, whether they know it or not, and they want to connect as well. So by offering myself up and by being as intent on listening and engaging with their story, I have the innate ability to be co-dependent pretty quickly, within minutes. I have an assumption of who I think people are that’s based on a snap judgment or appreciation of somebody’s work. Either they’re going to prove me wrong or they’re going to sort of expand and become much more than I ever anticipated.”

✏ Art director Nicole Marie Rincon varoittaa internetissä hengailun vaaroista: “Looking at things all day long on Tumblr, Dribbble, Twitter, or blogs does not equal making good work. Get off the Internet. Get on with the business of making things. Looking at other people's work all day long is black hole of unproductively.” Preach!

✏ Elämä on suurilta osin kamalaa. Vai mitä, filosofi Alber Camus? ”It is not humiliating to be unhappy. Physical suffering is sometimes humiliating, but the suffering of being cannot be, it is life. ―― What you must do now is nothing more than live like everybody else. You deserve, by what you are, a happiness, a fullness that few people know. Yet today this fullness is not dead, it is a part of life and, to its credit, it reigns over you whether you want it to or not. But in the coming days you must live alone, with this hole, this painful memory. This lifelessness that we all carry inside of us  by us, I mean to say those who are not taken to the height of happiness, and who painfully remember another kind of happiness that goes beyond the memory.”

"All jokes aside, Justin Bieber is a piece of shit", twiittasi koomikko Seth Rogen.

✏ Pianisti Bill Evans yritti kuvailla, miten hänen kollegansa Bud Powellin musiikki vaikutti häneen: “There are some feelings which don’t make you emotional. They don’t make you cry, they don’t make you laugh, they don’t make you feel anything but profound, and that’s the feeling I got from Bud Powell.”

Just me and my Steinway.
